Stage 2 — Development

Where Language, Literature and Imagination Meet

A new stage of creative English learning is in development.

Building upon Stage 1 Foundations, Stage 2 introduces a more advanced exploration of English grammar, vocabulary, reading, textual analysis and writing.

Designed primarily for learners aged 11–14 and informed by the Key Stage 3 English curriculum, this developing programme combines structured language learning with literature, creative activities and original storytelling.

Through three educational pillars and four Gobo Method learning principles, learners will progressively develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand, interpret and create increasingly sophisticated English texts.

Explore what's taking shape in Stage 2 Development.

Stage 2 In Development

Interactive Listen & Learn Lessons

Engaging presentations that introduce language concepts through our original story, The Academy of Wizards & Words, supported by guided explanations and examples.

Grammar & Vocabulary Reference Books

Dedicated resources for teachers and learners, providing clear explanations of increasingly advanced grammatical structures, vocabulary and punctuation.

Reading & Literary Exploration

Opportunities to explore and compare different forms of writing, including fiction, poetry, Shakespeare, drama and non-fiction.

Interactive Learning Activities

Creative challenges and practical exercises designed to develop understanding and reinforce language skills.

Textual Analysis & Critical Thinking

Guided activities that introduce inference, interpretation, evidence-based analysis and frameworks such as PEAL (Point, Evidence, Analysis, Link).

Writing & Composition

Progressive opportunities to practise descriptive, narrative, analytical and persuasive writing, developing accuracy, structure and expression.

The Apprentice Author's Challenge

A proposed final creative project in which learners plan, write, edit and present an original story, applying the skills developed throughout Stage 2.

From exploring language to creating original work, Stage 2 will encourage learners to become thoughtful readers, confident writers and imaginative storytellers.

What Will Stage 2 — Development Include?

A Progressive English Learning Experience for Ages 11–14

Building upon the foundations established in Stage 1, our developing Stage 2 programme will introduce more sophisticated English language skills through structured lessons, literature, interactive activities and creative storytelling. Designed with reference to the Key Stage 3 English curriculum, Stage 2 will bring together advanced grammar and vocabulary, reading comprehension, textual analysis and writing composition.

Learners and teachers can look forward to:

1. Grammar & Vocabulary

Understanding how language works through sentence structures, grammatical relationships, vocabulary and punctuation.

2. Reading & Textual Analysis

Exploring how writers use language, literary techniques and text structures to develop ideas, influence interpretation and create meaning.

3. Writing & Composition

Applying grammatical knowledge and literary understanding to plan, construct, evaluate and refine original written work.

The Three Educational Pillars

Building the Knowledge and Skills Behind Meaningful Writing

The Gobo Method brings together three interconnected educational pillars that provide the foundation for progressive English language development.

Each pillar supports the others, helping learners understand how language works, explore how writers create meaning, and develop the skills to produce increasingly sophisticated written work.

Together, these three pillars establish what we teach, while our four learning principles — Explore, Connect, Practise and Create — guide how learners develop their understanding.

Four Gobo Method Learning Principles

Explore

Discover new ideas through stories, activities, and meaningful experiences.

Build understanding by linking language, ideas, and experiences together.

Connect
Practise

Develop confidence through games, challenges, and interactive activities.

Create

Use imagination and creativity to apply learning in meaningful ways.
